about me
The first video camera I owned recorded my life in black and white, straight to VHS tape. It was a huge relic that lost its battery charge somewhere along the way and had to be plugged into a wall in order to record. But the day I dusted it off and held it in my hands, I felt like I had discovered buried treasure. With young ambition and enough extension cords, I was directing "movies" before I turned 13. It was the early 2000s, when Making the Music Video was on MTV, further prodding me into my passion for video production. I'd love to watch as directors planned, recorded, and edited entire music videos that I would later watch on TRL. Then once I learned how to edit in high school, I was hooked; all I wanted to do was record, edit, and create. I recorded weddings for about seven years after I graduated, but at some point I shoved my creative ambitions down, eventually trading them for the "comfort" of full-time employment.
...but here's to finding what we love, and doing it. Here's to living creative, fulfilling lives. Let's get out there and make something!
I'm Shannon, hi! Beyond that, here's a little bit about me...
-
My husband and I have a Miniature Schnauzer named Mr. Bojangles
-
I've visited 49 states (take me to Hawaii please?!)
-
Pisces, INFP, enneagram 9
-
I like: fountain Diet Coke, listening to music, nighttime, pizza, writing songs and poems, dogs, baking, daisies, people-watching, stripes, fun coffee mugs, finding a good deal, big earrings, raccoons, bake sales, things made by hand, visiting new places, the smell of a campfire, laughing, and cookies.
-
I dislike: the fact that food has calories, horror movies, poor-shaming, turbulence, small talk, driving in traffic, bad interviewing, repetitive sounds, my eyelashes sticking together, entitlement, and being put on the spot.
-
I work best with people who are: laid-back and enjoy going with the flow, curious, open-minded, and willing to laugh at themselves or a situation.
things I do...
To keep it simple...I record and edit events, and make videos. I often record in the background of a "scene," working to capture moments as they naturally happen. I dabble in photography when I am not recording events, but videography is my main focus. I cannot count how many times I've heard, "this video made me cry!" in the past few years. Maybe it's because we have a difficult time recognizing all the memories being made in a moment until it has passed.
...and that is why I love what I do.
things I do not do...
In order to have time to do what I love, there are certain things I cannot do. I do not transfer tapes (VHS, Hi-8, Mini-DV) to DVD, thumb drive, or digital files. Amazon has DIY options for transferring, or a local tech shop can help with this. I do not crowd-hype for footage at events. I do not record or edit sexually explicit material. I do not photograph weddings.
